Agriculture & Livestock

Today, the tradition of excellence in farming and ranching businesses continues as Midland has entered its second century. Several families have been honored in recent years for having "Century Farms", meaning the land has passed through several generations with one family ownership.

Midland's economy is dependent on the production of livestock, grains, hay and other agriculture items, which are raised in abundance. Some of the best cattle in the world are raised in this area of South Dakota.

Farmers and ranchers alike are progressive, using new technology, innovations in machinery, production of new (to this area) crops such as mustard, soybeans, and sunflowers, to ensure profitability and quality products for consumers.

Several organizations actively support our ag economy, including: SD Stockgrowers, Cattlewomen, and Beef Council.
